Los Angeles, recently

This is the day when I start to post interesting things... And by interesting, I mean not the "lets-talk-about-me" sort of interesting, but the type of interesting that you can chew on. And like. And ask for seconds. MMM...

First, LA. In my opinion, there has been a lull in excitement for the past few months. Suddenly, with the warm weather came lots of excitement! I'm still trying to make sense of it, but here's a quick list of things I've been seeing recently:

1. New (and just sort of new) stores!

  • Publik Park
  • Rodan vs. Griffith
  • Opening Ceremony. Wow.

2. Blogs about stores (among other things)!

3. DIY-ing... not as punk rock as it used to be, but the new forms it's taken on are still pretty rockin. Kinda just enforces the trend away from mass-produced consumer goods. Obscurity, limits, and one-of-a kind products/experiences are key.
  • Felt Club (Etsy -ish craft faire)
  • Hush Hush parties
  • The Love Movement (art collective)
  • Treat Street secret bake sale ("ancient secret recipes that have measurements like "speck" and "dash" or "handful" and have been passed down through generations! Feast on snacks from our friends' family recipe boxes, too!")
  • Guerilla drive-ins. I heard these are happening in Orange County, but haven't heard of any here in Los Angeles.
